Clarivate Analytics Releases the 2018 Journal Citation Reports

Clarivate Analytics publishes the annual Journal Citation Reports to help researchers identify target journals for their publishing needs. The Journal Citation Reports offer meaningful indicators to help researchers and institutions identify publications for various research requirements. The 2018 edition includes new information to offer academics deeper insights on journal performance.

Key Highlights of the 2018 Journal Citation Reports

Clarivate Analytics has been publishing the Journal Citation Reports since 1973. They rely on the core asset of the citation indexes, just like the Web of Science. Key highlights from the 2018 reports include:

● 11,655 journal listings;
● 80 countries represented;
● 234 disciplines;
● 276 new journals;
● 10% increase in Journal Impact Factors on average;
● 20 journals were removed to ensure the credibility of the reports (14 for Journal Self- Citation, while 6 for Citation Stacking);
● 1.2 million science citations and 303,000 social sciences citations were incorporated from the 2017 content of the Book Citation Index; and
● More than 64 million references were presented, with nearly 10 million in the Journal Impact Factor calculation alone.

The 2018 Journal Citation Reports noted that the management and business categories had the most new Journal Impact Factors. The Quarterly Journal of Economics had the highest Journal Impact Factor percentile score in 2018.

17th Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians 2-5 May 2018 Naypyitaw, Myanmar

Congress of Southeast Asia Librarians (CONSAL) is the sole regional organization of the libraries, library schools, Library Associations, and related institutions of the ASEAN countries. It was founded in Singapore in 1970 and has ten members which include the library associations and librarians of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

CONSAL holds a general conference every three years in each member country by turn and promotes cooperation among librarians in Southeast Asia Region. CONSAL provides the forum for the librarians and information specialists to strengthen networks, partnerships, and linkages with each other; promotes coordination, collaboration, and provides the platform for sharing and exchange of information and experiences on issues in the fields of librarianship, library and information sciences, documentation, information and related activities in the region.

CONSAL XVII is acting as a leading force in developing strategic relationships, undertaking the collaborative activities, and taking the good advantages for significant opportunities for the libraries in the Region.

The Theme of CONSAL XVII: “Next Generation Libraries: Collaborate and Connect”

The Opening Ceremony Speech given by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi (State Counsellor of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar) followed by ASEAN Anthem and Theme Song from the Local Traditional & Cultural Performance of Myanmar.

2. Location

The 17th CONSAL held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre (MICC II), Naypyitaw. Which is located on 16 acres of land with 312, 000 square feet in Zabuthiri Township, Naypyitaw. It was built by the People’s Republic of China and completed on 15 March 2010. The MICC has a plenary hall that can accommodate 1900 persons. The MICC building is formed with listening rooms, holding rooms, meeting rooms, VIP summit room, news briefing room, singing room and the 720 person capacity Banquet Hall.

3. Participants

Participants of the 17th CONSAL were attended from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries such as Japan and Australia. There were 12 delegates from Malaysia (UPM, PNM, USM, IMU, Petronas, Perpustakaan Negeri Sabah, and PPM) which 3 of them as an oral presenter.

  • Empowering Civil Servants through Media and Information Literacy in Transforming Government Services by Yazid I. (PNM)

The Closing Ceremony of CONSAL XVII remarks by Vice President 1, Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Outstanding Librarian Award (Gold) were given to the Philipines, Ms. Mila Ramos honouring from CONSAL XVII. The ending of the ceremony before the Myanmar Traditional Performance was the conveying of the CONSAL flag to the next host Cambodia 2021. Overall CONSAL XVII were excellence and well handled by the organizer.

Beberapa siri Program Literasi Maklumat (PLM) telah dianjurkan oleh Sekyen Perkhidmatan Maklumat mulai  bulan Januari sehingga April 2018 kepada seluruh warga UPM. Diantara siri-siri PLM tersebut adalah:

  1. Kelas Hari Selasa
  2. Library Information Literacy Programme for New Postgraduate Student
  3. Kelas Kemahiran Maklumat Pelajar Prasiswazah (Ijazah/Diploma/Asasi), dan
  4. Kelas Pangkalan Data oleh Penerbit.

Program ini dilaksanakan bagi memastikan pelajar mendapat  pendedahan awal mengenai kemudahan dan perkhidmatan yang disediakan oleh Perpustakaan, meneroka katalog atas talian (WebOPAC) dan pangkalan data-pangkalan data yang dilanggan serta belajar teknik berkesan dan cepat untuk mendapatkan maklumat dari pangkalan data tersebut.

Di samping itu, pelajar juga diberi tunjuk ajar mengenai Mendeley iaitu salah satu perisian percuma yang digunakan untuk menguruskan bahan rujukan dalam penulisan. Manakala  latihan  Turnitin juga turut diajar kepada pengguna. Turnitin ialah sistem aplikasi yang digunapakai untuk menyemak peratusan persamaan hasil penulisan bagi mengelakkan berlakunya aktiviti plagiat.

Sebanyak empat modul utama diajar dalam Program Literasi Maklumat tersebut iaitu :

  1. Modul Strategi Pencarian Maklumat dan Modul Turnitin,
  2. Modul Pangkalan Data Atas Talian merangkumi bidang Sains Sosial, bidang Sains & Teknologi serta bidang Pertanian & Sains Hayat.
  3. Modul Mendeley : Asas
  4. Modul Pengenalan Perpustakaan & WebOPAC

 

 

Bagi memenuhi keperluan maklumat terkini, mulai tahun ini Modul Citation Indexed Journal telah diserapkan dalam kelas Strategi Pencarian Maklumat. Ia diadakan khusus untuk pelajar pascasiswazah untuk mendapatkan jurnal-jurnal yang mempunyai faktor impak dan kedudukan dalam bidang-bidang tertentu bagi tujuan penerbitan dalam SCOPUS dan Incites Journal Citation Reports (JCR).

Sehingga bulan April 2018, seramai 1,147 orang pelajar yang terdiri daripada pelajar pascasiswazah, pelajar prasiswazah, pegawai bukan akademik dan juga pegawai akademik telah menghadiri Program Literasi Maklumat.

STATIS

Program Literasi Maklumat ini akan diteruskan sehingga Disember 2018. Program terdekat yang akan berlangsung adalah Kelas Hari Selasa pada bulan Mei & Jun.

Intellectual Property(IP) Awareness Seminar 2018 – Trademark, Industrial Design, Copyright & Patent telah berlangsung pada 8 Mac 2018 bermula jam 9.00 pagi sehingga 5.00 petang bertempat di Putra Science Park yang dihadiri oleh penyelidik-penyelidik UPM.

Ia adalah bertujuan untuk memberi pendedahan kepada penyelidik-penyelidik tentang kepenting an perlindungan harta intelek. Pelbagai maklumat telah dikongsi oleh Pencemah iaitu Encik Irfan Mustaqim bin Awang. Seminar ini amat penting untuk memastikan setiap hasil penyelidik tidak akan digunakan sewenang-wenangnya oleh pihak lain dengan tujuan kepentingan sendiri.
